‘Chappie’ Movie Trailer Shows A Robot With Feelings [Watch Video]
A trailer from the upcoming movie "Chappie" is creating a buzz on social media. The video has been watched by over a million fans in less than two days of its launch. The movie is about a robot that learns from its surroundings and grows mentally, much like a human child would. [Warning: Spoiler Alert!]
What happens when a robot is given human emotions and the inquisitive mind of a human child? This is the central premise of the upcoming movie "Chappie." The movie is being directed by Neill Blomkamp, who is known for his other works like "District 9" and "Elysium."
The robot is created by Deon, a role played by actor Dev Patel. He has created a machine that can think and feel. Initially, the robot can experience basic emotions like fear. Later on, it gets to develop deep bonds of friendship.
Just as a human child is fascinated by all the little things in the environment, the robot slowly starts to experience and learn new things. The trailer shows the robot watching cartoons and creating works of art. One of the cast members is seen reading the robot a bedtime story.
However, since there is fear of something new and unknown in the world, Chappie faces people who do not accept his being different. From mean kids on the streets to people who want to destroy what he represents, the robot will have to face insurmountable odds to survive and also protect his friends. Hugh Jackman can be seen in the trailer to be convinced that the robot poses a danger and will make efforts to destroy it.
The story takes the viewers on an exciting journey of a robot that learns from his surroundings but will one day find his own path and redefine the way human beings look at robots. His creator feels that the robot may be the next step in evolution.
"Chappie" is slated to be released on March 12, 2015 in Australia and on March 6 in the U.S. and UK. Some of the cast members of the movie include Hugh Jackman, Dev Patel, Sigourney Weaver, Sharlto Copley, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Miranda Frigon, Sean O. Roberts and Robert Hobbs.
