Charlie Sheen is going back to his Latino roots, at least for a new film. The American actor is changing his name back to Carlos Estevez, his birth name, to use in the upcoming Robert Rodriguez film, "Machete Kills."

This is the first time in his professional career that Charlie is using his real name. Born Carlos Estevez, Charlie followed his father's lead and changed his professional name to cater to a wider audience.

His father is actually Ramon Antonio Gerardo Estevez, but is better known by his stage name, Martin Sheen, whose parents were immigrants from Spain and Ireland. And although he has been using his anglicised name since the beginning of his career, he never changed it legally.

That is why Charlie remains Carlos in real life.

However, for the "Anger Management" star, he hasn't fully embraced his Spanish heritage yet.

"I don't wake up feeling Latino. I'm a white guy in America," he said in a 2012 Univision interview, as obtained by usmagazine.com. "I was born in New York and grew up in Malibu.

"I wish I spoke more Spanish. I'm sure I can learn, but there hasn't been a lot of time lately. It was never a part of my life growing up. My parents never infused it into our household."

His older brother has no problem using his real name in his career, though. Emilio Estevez remains Emilio Estevez even in films.

"Machete Kills," which will hit theatres in September, will see Carlos acting alongside fellow Latinos Antonio Banderas, Sofia Vergara, Michelle Rodriguez, Danny Trejo, Alexa Vega, Zoe Saldana, and Jessica Alba. It will also star Mel Gibson, Vanessa Hudgens, and Lady Gaga among many other names.
