The Los Angeles Superior Court has finalized Charlie Sheen’s divorce with ex-wife Brooke Mueller but they will only be legally free in May. Judge Hank Goldberg of the Los Angeles Superior Court stamped the divorce papers Thursday declaring the divorce will be official on May 2.

The court’s decision on Sheen’s divorce was first reported by TMZ, said the Associated Press.

The judge ruled that they will both get equal share from the royalties of the portraits of them and their twin sons. The court also allowed Sheen to keep his house in Hollywood Hills but he is required to pay Brooke sheen more than $750,000. This is part of the pre-nuptial agreement the former couple signed before they tied the knot in May 2008.

Still citing TMZ, AP said that their two sons will stay with Brooke sheen. But although the judge granted the physical custody to his wife, Sheen is allowed by the court to share legal custody of their children and visit them in ‘substantial visitation time’.

The Two and a Half Men star, America’s highest-paid television actor for the most-watched comedy program, is required by law to pay a monthly child support in the agreed amount of $55,000.

Charlie and Brooke filed the divorce in November last year. But according to AP, they cited on the legal documents that they got separated on December 25, 2009, the day Sheen was arrested in Aspen, Colo. Brooke was reported to have suffered physical injuries then, resulting from a heated argument between her and Charlie that led to a more serious domestic violence. Sheen, added AP got away from the incident with 30 days on probation.
