Entertainment website TMZ.com reports that actor Charlie Sheen can decide if he wants to serve jail time or go on probation.

Sheen is said to go to Aspen next week to motion a no contest plea to 3rd degree assault and begin his jail time right away.

A sentence of 30 days in jail is expected, however, it may be brought down to 17 days if he shows good behaviour. He must also undergo an anger management course.

In February, Sheen was charged with assaulting and threatening his wife Brooke Mueller on December 25 while they were on a family vacation in Aspen. Mueller told the police that Sheen pulled a knife and threatened to kill her when she said that she would divorce him. Alcohol tests showed that the couple had been drinking.

Back in 1999, Sheen accidentally shot then fiancée Kelly Preston in the arm. After the incident, she broke up with him and got married to John Travolta.

Meanwhile, Sheen plays Charlie Harper in the US comedy Two and a Half Men which is aired on Channel Nine at 7 p.m. every Wednesday.
