Cyber bullying has become a major issue in today's modern society. Celebrities are also victims of cyber attacks.

Recently, TV host and model Charlotte Dawson was rushed to the hospital after she was attacked by hundreds of social media trolls overnight.

A St. Vincent's Hospital spokesman said 46-year-old Dawson was in the hospital in Sydney's Darlinghurst and was expected to make a "full recovery".

Dawson appeared on the Nine Network's "A Current Affair" and Ten Network's "The Project" last night to share the story of her Twitter bullying this week. However, her interviews angered many social media users with many followers calling for the celebrity to "please go hang yourself."

In more than 100 messages of abuse, which Dawson re-tweeted on her own page, followers told the celebrity to "neck yourself you filthy s***" and "please put your face in a toaster".

The social media war started after Dawson tracked down one alleged Twitter hater, Tanya Heti, who has since been suspended from her mentoring job at Melbourne's Monash University after Dawson reported her abusive tweets to the university.

Following this incident, Australia is considering drafting tougher laws against cyber bullying. The Federal Coalition is calling for changes to existing laws that would better protect people from cyber-bullying and harassment.

Charlotte Dawson was not the first celebrity attacked by netizens. Young singer Zayn Malik of popular boy band One Direction recently caused a stir in the Twitter world after he deleted his account due to cyber attacks.

The young singer claimed that he was "being abused" online and decided to deactivate his Twitter account. However, he apparently changed his mind and let everyone know that he is back in the Twittersphere.
