Chelsea Clinton and long-term boyfriend Marc Mezvinsky got married on Saturday night in Rhinebeck, New York.

Photos of the wedding ceremony have already been released by the family, which gave details on the high-security event.

The bride wore a traditional white, strapless Vera Wang gown. Her father and the groom were both in dark suits, while her mother wore a fuchsia dress.

A statement from Bill and Hillary Clinton said: "Today, we watched with great pride and overwhelming emotion as Chelsea and Marc wed in a beautiful ceremony at Astor Courts, surrounded by family and their close friends.

"We could not have asked for a more perfect day to celebrate the beginning of their life together, and we are so happy to welcome Marc into our family. On behalf of the newlyweds, we want to give special thanks to the people of Rhinebeck for welcoming us and to everyone for their well-wishes on this special day."

A rabbi and a minister officiated the ceremony for Methodist Clinton and Jewish Mezvinsky. It also included the poem The Life That I Have from Leo Marks.

Aircrafts were not permitted to fly over the event and the road to the exclusive estate was closed. The neighbours were given bottles of wine to compensate for the inconvenience.

Guests during the wedding included acting couple Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen; Madeleine Albright, secretary of state during Bill Clinton's second term as president; and Terry McAuliffe, the former Democratic national committee chairman.

Clinton and Mezvinsky have been friends since their teenage years and they both went to Stanford University. Mezvinsky is the son of the former Democrat politicians Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky and Ed Mezvinsky, who are a long-term friend of the Clintons.
