In the wake of their win against Schalke on Tuesday, Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard talks about his team's prolific performance as well as the great individual displays by his teammates.

"I thought it was very good from start to finish," Lampard told chelseafc.com.

"An early away goal always helps your confidence in a game like that."

The Blues scored 3 goals, thanks to a brace by Fernando Torres and a goal from Eden Hazard.

Schalke threw men forward for most parts which made them pay dearly as two of the Chelsea goals were products of counterattacks.

Chelsea knew that the German side is capable of doing damage, so they had to be very disciplined on defence, which paid dividends as the game progressed.

"They're very strong at home with good support and had two good wins so far in the competition," he added.

"I think when we defended we were very organised and didn't give them too many chances to create, and when we counter-attacked we caused them real damage. Coming away in Europe is tough but we put on the performance we had to to win the game, and that was very satisfying at the end."

When he was asked about Torres, who looked like the El Niño that fans used to know, this was what Lampard had to say: "I think he's always been a world-class striker"

"When you are that, eyes are always on you and we saw with his sharpness and his two goals, he has contributed this season."

Lampard also surmised that competition could have pushed the Spaniard to get in form and deliver the goods.

"We're lucky we have Fernando, Samuel Eto'o and Demba Ba. It's good to have that competition up there but great to see Fernando get his two goals," he said.
