Chelsea FC Transfer News: Barcelona Eyeing Blues Striker for End-of-Season Swoop
Football powerhouse FC Barcelona are suggested to be eyeing Chelsea striker Fernando Torres for a possible end-of-season move to the Nou Camp.
"Torres came here (Barcelona) in 2012 and scored in front of the Nou Camp crowd, it sent Barca out of the Champions League and he has been remembered for that," an insider told Football Direct News.
The word "struggle" is an understatement to describe the Spain international's ongoing stint at Stamford Bridge as he failed to justify the biggest transfer fee, at £50million, between two Premier League clubs.
However, he might be able to capitalise on the new opportunity that could be handed to him in his homeland, with boyhood club Atletico Madrid also in the mix, relying on the mantra "form is temporary, but class is permanent."
The 30-year-old showed glimpses of his potential when he was still with Liverpool this season, scoring crucial goals and remaining a threat in the attacking line, but just lacked consistency and of course, goals.
El Niño is tied with Chelsea until 2016, but with Jose Mourinho looking to make a "surgical" improvement in the off-season, he will definitely be sold to raise more funds to acquire desired faces.
"It is not secret that he has good friendships with a number of players here and I think it is time for him to return to Spain," the source added.
