Chelsea thrash Crystal Palace in the Premier League to go 14th in the League Table
Chelsea won their first match under caretaker manager Guus Hiddink’s second spell at the football club and rediscovered their swagger when they beat Crystal Palace, 3-0 in the Premier League match on Sunday.
The win was Chelsea’s second on the road this season after a disastrous start to their title defence. The victory came at a cost for the current Premier League champions as Belgian star Eden Hazard limped off the field during the early parts of the game.
Last season’s Footballer of the Year Hazard has failed to find the net in Chelsea’s colour for 30 games and has been in a terrible run of form. Hiddink revealed that an MRI scan will be done to assess the severity of the groin injury.
The Dutchman saw Chelsea draw its first two games under him and the 3-1 victory over Sunderland was before his appointment.
Hazard’s injury did not cause any troubles for the blues as Chelsea showed amazing character by playing a fluid passing game under the midfield leadership of Cesc Fabregas, who along with Diego Costa set up an amazing ball for Oscar to score the opening goal in the 29th minute of the match.
Palace has been a phenomenal club this season under Alan Pardew, however they failed to create any threat on the counter and it showed when Wilfred Zaha missed a goal scoring opportunity by gifting the ball to Thibaut Courtois.
Chelsea increased the lead soon enough when Oscar created a fantastic opportunity for his Brazilian colleague Willian to blast the ball into goal from close range.
It was Costa who scored the third goal, although credit goes to Willian as he dribbled into the box to send a shot to be saved by Wayne Hennessey allowing the ball to land in front of Costa’s feet for a tap in.
"We know there is a lot of quality in the squad, not just in the starting 11. When they get the ball they can play." Hiddink said after the match as reported by CNN.
Chelsea are currently 14th on the League table and trail Tottenham Hotspurs by 13 points, who occupy the final Champions League position.
Chelsea will next host Scunthorpe in the third round of the FA Cup on Jan. 10, 2016.
