International singer Cheryl Cole has filed for divorce from her footballer hubby, Ashley, said a spokeswoman on Wednesday.

UK's The Sun reported that the 26-year-old, who made a name for herself in one of Britain's longest reigning girl groups, Girls Aloud, is expected to apply for a "quickie" divorce.

A spokeswoman for her PR company confirmed that divorce papers had been filed at the High Court on Tuesday, but did not disclose reasons behind the split.

Several media reports said she had cited the "unreasonable behaviour of her husband", after tabloids highlighted the Chelsea defender's infidelity.

The couple have been hounded by the paparazzi throughout their nearly four-year marriage with rumours of Ashley's extramarital affairs coming into light just a few months after their July 2006 wedding.

Although the 'X Factor' judge brushed off all initial allegations of Ashley's affairs, reports surfacing in February proved to be the last straw when it was alleged that Ashley had five other mistresses at one time while still married to her, prompting the sexy songbird to force the then-injured Ashley to move out from their home.

Due to the couple's impending divorce, The Sun also reports that Chelsea is expecting a backlash from supporters and is scrambling to find ways to retain Ashley's services for the football club. The report speculates that Ashley could see a move to Spain's La Liga, especially after it was announced earlier this week that former Chelsea coach, Jose Mourinho, will be the new coach for Spanish giants, Real Madrid.
