Chester Bennington, dead at 41: Three fast facts about the Linkin Park singer's death [VIDEOS]
Chester Bennington, Linkin Park's frontman, was found dead on Thursday, July 20 in Palos Verdes Estates, California. His death is still being investigated as a possible suicide, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office. Read on to learn more about Bennington's death.
Three fast facts about Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington's death:
1. Bennington's hanged body was discovered by one of his employees in his home at around 9 am PDT.
TMZ reports that the 41-year old singer and songwriter's body was found hanging upstairs in his Los Angeles home by one of his employees on Thursday morning. Bennington was home alone when he died because his family was out of town. He has six children namely Jaime, Isaiah (adopted), Draven Sebastian, Tyler Lee and twins Lila and Lilly. He was married twice. His first marriage was with Samantha Marie Olit on Oct. 31, 1996. They divorced in 2005, and he married former model and schoolteacher Talinda Bentley in 2006.
2. The LA County coroner's office confirmed his death but it is still being investigated as a possible suicide.
According to the New York Times, Brian Elias, LA County coroner chief of operations, said that law enforcement authorities responded to a call about Bennington's situation shortly after 9 am on Thursday. Elias added that the Linkin Park singer's death is still being investigated as a possible suicide.
3. Bennington's death coincides with his friend and Soundgarden lead vocalist Chris Cornell's 53rd birthday.
Bennington, who was also the lead singer for the band Dead by Sunrise, aka Snow White Tan, died on Cornell's birthday. Variety reports that the Soundgarden and Audioslave lead vocalist was also found dead by his bodyguard Martin Kirsten in the bathroom of his room at the MGM Grand Hotel in Detroit, Michigan. His body was discovered at around 12:15 a.m on May 18, 2017 and a red exercise band was found around his neck. According to the Associated Press (AP), a medical examiner determined that Cornell committed suicide by hanging.
Social media reactions on Chester Bennington's death
Mike Shinoda, musician and co-founder of Linkin Park who also rapped in the band's songs, including "Numb" from the 2003 "Meteora" album and "In the End" from the 2000 "Hybrid Theory" album, tweeted about his reaction on the death of bandmate Bennington. He said that he was heartbroken and shocked. He also said that an official statement from the band will be released soon.
As of the moment, the Linkin Park Twitter page has a photo of Bennington as its latest tweet. His other Linkin Park bandmates Joe Hahn, Dave Farrell, Brad Delson and Rob Bourdon, have not yet posted about Bennington's death as of writing. According to TMZ, Hahn recently visited Bennington's home, and several fans have already left flowers on the Linkin Park frontman's driveway.
Chester's Stone Temple Pilots stint
Aside from Linkin Park and Dead by Sunrise, Bennington also became the frontman of the band Stone Temple Pilots (STP) from 2013 to 2015. Robert DeLeo, the bass player of STP, posted a photo and a video of Bennington in his official Twitter account.
Chester Charles Bennington was born on March 20, 1976 in Phoenix, Arizona to a nurse and a police detective. His last tweet on his @ChesterBe Twitter account was on July 5 showing a new profile photo of himself. After that, he has retweeted several posts, including a photo with Mike Shinoda and his other friends, one about plastic trash and another one of his wife Talinda and their daughter.
