China Baby Saved from Sewer Pipe: Mother Confesses Deed
The mother of the baby saved from the pipe in China was already in the custody of the police, NBC reported. The 22-year-old mother reportedly admitted to her deed when police required her to undergo a medical check-up.
The mother confessed that her pregnancy resulted after a one-night stand. She shared that she hide the pregnancy from her parents and neighbors through wrapping a cloth tightly around her stomach and through wearing loose clothing. She regretfully said that she wants to keep the baby, nurture her child but she is clueless how to do it. She said that the father of the baby refused to acknowledge them.
The distraught mother also said that she had no money to pay for abortion and was not expecting that she will give birth come that Sunday. She confessed that she thought she was just feeling sick so she went to the bathroom at the fourth-floor of the apartment building but then she found herself in labor.
Jiang Song, vice director of police, said that "That day she felt stomachaches. So she went to the toilet. It was actually close to her due date and the baby just slid out."
The woman indeed admitted that she has no intention of having the baby fall into the toilet. She said she did her best to retrieve her baby with a stick. She only flushed the toilet to wash away the blood that blurs the position of the baby in the toilet. That was when the baby got stuck into the pipe.
According to CNN's report, the mother called her landlord under the pretext that she heard strange sounds from the pipe. She may not want to keep her child, but she sincerely did want the baby to just die in the pipe. She told her landlord and the neighbors that the sound might be a baby and that everybody should check. The neighbors then called the police and firefighters whom freed the baby from the pipe.
The police said that as soon as they arrived at the apartment, they saw blood stained pants in the room. They immediately hinted that the girl was the mother of the baby.
Jinhua police told local newspapers that the case was being considered as an attempted murder but it will be mitigated since the mother surrendered into their custody and had admitted to her act. The police said that there can also be a possibility that the mother will not face charges anymore.
The baby saved from the pipe is now known in China as baby No. 59, named after the incubator number in which he was being taken care of.
There were local reports confirming that the baby is now in good condition except for bruises in legs, arms and head. Doctors from Pujian People's Hospital choose to keep mum about the baby's health.
The case of the baby saved from pipe acquired global attention as people strongly condemn the act. The mother continued to suffer backlash through Chinese social media as suspicion that she dumped the baby on her own never stops.
Meanwhile, there was outpour of donations of powdered milk, toys and blankets for the baby saved from the pipe. The donations came from communities and across China and officials were already looking for ways how people willing to donate from other countries can make their donations.
