China Goes Crazy Over iPhone 6: 1 Million Pre-ordered in 6 Hours
Will Apple be Able to Meet the iPhone 6 Demand in China
Apple had delays in releasing the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in China, the world's largest consumer market. Due to regulatory problems, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in China said that the process would be completed as early as possible.
This Friday, on the 10th of October, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were available for pre orders by Apples three local carriers. It was astonishing to note that within less than 6 hours of the kick off of sales the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus sold 1 million units in China.
The carriers China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicorn started off unofficial pre-orders since the phones were first cleared for sale, reported Fortune. Tim Cook the CEO of Apple stated unofficially that Apple is thrilled to bring the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus to customers in China on all three carriers at launch.
With the support for FDD-LTE and TD-LTE, the iPhone 6 Plus and the iPhone 6 customers will have access to high speed mobile networks from China Unicorn, China Telecom and China Mobile. This will be an incredible experience to the customers, he added.
There are reports from Tencents stating that around 6,700 authorised reseller have also sold these two devices like sweets. JingDong a Chinese website has registered 9 million iPhone reservations. The iPhone 6 having registered 4,542,488 units and the iPhone 6 Plus has registered 4,694,853 units. When these two numbers are compared, it seems like the iPhone 6 Plus is the slightly more favourable choice.
Though the demand has hit the roof, it will be in short supply. It still needs to be seen whether it will break record sales that was set during its global launch. Just in retrospection, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus sold 10 million units in one week from its launch.
The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be available on sale on the 17th of October in India and China.
