Inner Mongolia, China's largest coal producing region, has produced 908 million tonnes of coal from January to November this year, up 26.6 per cent from a year ago.

In November, the region's output came in at 94.1 million tonnes, an 18.1 per cent rise year-on-year, Xinhua News reported based from a statement released by the autonomous regional economy and information technology commission of China on Thursday.

As of end 2010, Northern Inner Mongolia's proven coal reserves stood at 741.4 billion tonnes, the largest nationwide. It surpassed Shanxi province's coal output of 790 million tonnes in the January to November period. Shanxi's coal production represented an annual increase of 18.6 per cent, according to the provincial statistics bureau.

The combined November output grew 15.3 per cent to hit a monthly record of 80.8 million tonnes due to a spike in the demand for the fossil fuel to power generators and provide heating in winter, Xinhua said.
