Chinese Woman Survivor, Still Alive After 2 Weeks Entrapment in Well
If there's one incredible story of survival that you should read this week, then it's that of a woman who fell trap in a well for 2 weeks! Reminds you of Sadako? However this one is from China.
The 38-year-old Su Qixiu was searching for some herbs on Sept 1 when she accidentally fell into an abandoned well. The cornfield where she was looking had very tall corn stalks which led her to not have noticed the well, MSN.com reports. She fell as deep as 12 feet having with her several corn ears which she got from the stalks she tried to hold on to, but broke.
Since it was impossible for her to come out on her own, her survival depended on the raw corn and by drinking rain water. On Sept 16, a villager who came to the corn field heard the trapped woman's cries and asked assistance immediately from the fire department.
She revealed with her interview on Xinhua news agency that she cried for help everyday, BBC reports. "I called out every day, and although there was no response, I did not give up," she said.
During her 2 week ordeal, the woman's hubby noticed that his wife lost a lot of weight, from 115 lbs to as low as 80 lbs. Even if the victim did not have any reported injuries, she is still unable to eat much or talk since some of her internal organs have not yet recovered fully.
The brave Su Qixiu is getting all the medical care she needs.
Five other people in the southwest region of China in July have died after falling into a well.
