Young Adult books that were turned into movies are celebrated and lined up for. While it certainly has its own fan base for it would not be adapted into a movie if it does not, "If I Stay" really has a lot to prove. Coming on the heels of popular book to movie adaptations such as Twilight, The Hunger Games, Divergent, The Fault in Our Stars and The Giver, the movie stands the risk of being considered another film that tells the love of teenagers surviving very difficult and even surreal circumstances. The lead star, Chloe Grace Moretz, explained to Hollywood Reporter why it is not.

Chloe told Hollywood Reporter at a New York screening of "If I Stay" that the movie should be watched because of its authenticity. For her, it is a story revolving around a family and shows how a family loves each other. Because it is a story about a normal girl, who thought that she is very different, that YA film than any of the movies teens have previously lined up for.

"We have no Hollywood cliché. It is just real life and real moments. You are literally peeking into the window inside of a house, watch all of this depict itself and then you walk away", Chloe said.

She said that the film is actually unique because it depicted a "normal" girl. For her, movies of normal girls are few. Coming from films of girls with extraordinary life, even scary such as Kick-Ass, Let Me In and Carrie; she had a unique fondness for this film where she is just a normal girl making a "very tough decision" because this is how majority of girls are in real life. The very tough decision that her character, Mia, has to decide on the movie is literally a matter of life and death. She had to decide whether to live or die. She is in comatose patient and looked back at her life.

Chloe of course expounded on the themes that is being explored in the movie. It is not only about romance. It also deals with essential themes of life, love, family and friendships, passion for music and first love - there are so many themes in which we dealt with since we were five and six years old. So I think that even if you do not know the original story, you are going to be able to comprehend it on a higher level," said Chloe to Hollywood Reporter.

The film is showing a lot of promises. Variety.com shared that it could overshadow "Sin City 2" and could be a breakout, based on Facebook statuses and tweets. It could connect with the same fans that went to see "The Fault in Our Stars" movie.
