Echoing the voice of many of Rihanna's fans, Chris Brown's father also doesn't want his son to be with her. Clinton Brown thinks that his hot-headed son shouldn't end up with the "Diamonds" songstress, but not for the reason everyone expects.

Speaking to the New York Daily News exclusively, the elder Brown said that he would prefer if his 23-year-old son stays away from Rihanna, saying, "I personally really didn't want him and Rihanna back together.

"You have to have balance in a relationship. You have to have someone who is spontaneous and whimsical but you also have to have someone who is grounded and logical."

It's not clear if he was referring to Chris or Rihanna being "spontaneous and whimsical," but they both don't seem to fit the "grounded and logical" part.

Chris infamously beat Rihanna in 2009. She was supposed to perform on the 51st Grammy Awards on February 28, but had to cancel the night before when Chris brutally attacked her. She sustained visible injuries, and the photo of which was spread online.

Chris was charged with assault and making criminal threats, and was ordered to stay away from her. He was sentenced to five years of probation, a year of domestic violence counselling, and half a year of community service.

Fans were then dismayed to see Rihanna forgive and get back together with Chris late last year.

"I decided it was more important for me to be happy, and I wasn't going to let anybody's opinion get in the way of that," she told Rolling Stone magazines in an interview, knowing she would be criticised for reuniting with him.

"Even if it's a mistake, it's my mistake. After being tormented for so many years, being angry and dark, I'd rather just live my truth and take the backlash. I can handle it."

But for Clinton, his son's roller coaster romance isn't healthy.

"I hate to use examples, but Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Amy Winehouse - I mean I could on and on!" he said. "Is that a given - that you can't have fortune and fame without (death) being the end result?"

And while Clinton thinks Rihanna is "beautiful," "exotic," and "successful," he has someone else in mind for his son.

"I personally liked Jordin Sparks. She's a wholesome young lady, very pretty."

Chris collaborated with Jordin's single "No Air" in 2008.
