Probably adding up to the already busy filming schedule of Australian actor Chris Hemsworth is the upcoming science fiction movie "Robopocalypse" by acclaimed film director Steven Spielberg. The "Thor" actor is reportedly in talks to be cast in the film as well as "The Dark Knight Rises" actress Anne Hathaway.
Based on Daniel H. Wilson's best-selling 2011 novel, the concept of "Robopocalypse" has already been developed at Steven Spielberg's own 20th Century Fox and Dreamworks studios. The futuristic film "Robopocalypse" will feature robots and their artificial intelligence is bound to become a reality. In order to protect the Earth's biodiversity, Archos, an extremely intelligent robot who attained self-awareness, is set to annihilate human civilization.
The Guardian reports that two years prior to the novel's publication, Dreamworks already got hold of the rights to "Robopocalypse" in 2009. As producer to the upcoming film, outgoing Fox chairman Tom Rothman jumped on the bandwagon with Steven Spielberg.
"When someone like Tom is a free agent, you snatch him up fast," Spielberg said in the Guardian UK report. "He has proven himself to be a necessity of this industry. At Fox he had already been an enthusiastic partner on Robopocalypse and it is to our advantage that he would come produce this film with me."
After Steven Spielberg asked for his help on this upcoming project, Tom Rothman admitted that he is more than thrilled and privileged to be working with the movie genius.
"If you are in politics, you dream of a call from the White House, in baseball, from the Yankees, in movies, from Steven Spielberg. Robopocalypse is the kind of important epic entertainment, a big movie with big ideas that Steven does better than any film-maker on Earth," Rothman said in the Guardian UK.
Location for filming "Robopocalypse" will be in Montreal, Canada with a screenplay written by Drew Goddard of "Cabin in the Woods." The film is due for release in theaters in April 2014.
