Chrissy Teigen speaks out on 'lack of diversity' in Miss Teen USA 2016
Supermodel mum Chrissy Teigen has poked fun at the publicly acclaimed "lack of diversity" among the semi-finalists of Miss Teen USA 2016. The 30-year-old "Lip Sync Battle" host sarcastically pointed it out through a post on Twitter.
Wow how can we choose from such a diverse bunch https://t.co/0a4JHbP465

The post earned over 38,000 retweets. Chrissy then followed up with a tweet saying that she was only joking. She added that the contestants seem like "delightful women."
It's fiiiiiine. Not their fault. I'm sure they are delightful women. Just funny. I'm not gonna write a think-piece on a damn pageant.

John Legend's wife was not the only one who noticed the lineup of finalists. Former Miss Teen USA Kamie Crawford also shared her reaction online. She shared her disappointment in the newly crowned teen queen's tweets, which contained the N-word as well.
Guys, don't bash the #missteenusa top 5 for their similar appearances. The choice wasn't theirs &it's not their issue. No name calling yall!

Following the controversy regarding Miss Texas Karlie Hay's racist tweets in the past, viewers called out the Miss Teen USA organisation for choosing contestants who "nearly look identical." The official Miss Teen USA Twitter account posted a banner of the top five contenders who all had fair skin, blonde hair and blue eyes.
So brave of Miss Teen USA to promote diversity of eyebrow shape!!! pic.twitter.com/nENY8jMs7e

miss teen usa, you should be disappointed in your pageant. beauty is beyond blonde hair and blue eyes.

I can take the #missteenusa top 5 being an all white, all blonde top 5. What I can't take is - why didn't the winner clean up her page? ___

After Hay, the Texas representative was followed by Miss North Carolina Emily Wakeman in second place. Marley Stokes from South Carolina, Erin Snow from Alabama and Carissa Morrow from Nevada joined them in the final five.
According to New York Daily News, an insider requested a comment from the Miss Teen USA organisation. However, the organisation has not yet given their statement.
Despite the multiple criticisms, Miss Teen USA 2016 was praised for successfully promoting equality and feminism by changing the swimsuit competition into an athletic wear competition. Contestants modelled designs created by Tapout and Goldsheep.
