Is Cigarette Smoking Destroying Adele's Powerful Voice?
It was reported a couple of days ago that Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Adele has been forced to call off the rest of her U.S. tour because of more problems with her voice, particularly hemorrhaging on her vocal cords. It was assumed that the damage was caused by her performances. As it turns out, singing had nothing to do with it. Nowadays, Adele is trying to convince fans that her smoking habit has also nothing to do with it.
"Smoking is not the reason I got laryngitis - it was because I was talking too much. I damage my voice offstage, not onstage. Onstage I am fine as apparently I am technically great, but when I talk I damage my voice big time. I have got screwed into giving up smoking," Adele told "The Sun."
The "Someone Like You" singer was devastated and annoyed over the tour cancellation and she will be even more upset and furious now that she knows her vocal chords troubles are all her own fault. It was thought Adele's smoking habit was to blame but in actual fact the down-to-earth singer talks too much and apparently it is not good for her voice.
Adele went on to admit that before she became a successful singer, she was smoking 25 cigarettes a day and said she would still be doing it if she could. However, with her busy career and her illness, it has prompted her to quit altogether. Needless to say, she is not happy about it.
"Smoking is my favorite thing to do in the world, I am gutted I have had to give up. But I have been tough - no patches, no gum, no hypnotism. It f---ing sucks," Adele stated.
Despite the destructive habit, Adele has managed to snag two Grammys and three VMAs, broken several sales records, drove the most-watched episode in the history of "Saturday Night Live" and was named the 9th wealthiest U.K. musician under the age of 30.
