Audience members of Cirque du Soleil's "Ka" were completely horrified instead of amazed on what should have been a stunning performance of the world's most famous troupe at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
Many took to social media their reactions and condolences to the shocking death of Sarah Guyard-Guillot, who was also known by her stage name Sasoun.
Forsasoun.com, a tribute and memorial website for Guyard-Guillot, has been flooded with condolences from her colleagues, students and fans. "Sarah, you were a blessing wrapped in angel wings with the heart of gold. May you know how much love surrounds you still. Your aerials are dreams to millions of watchers and you touched our souls. You will be greatly missed. My heart is broken for your family and friends. Spread your wings and fly," one comment read.
One parent wrote on Cirque du Soleil's Facebook page, "No words. My boys loved every moment in Miss Sarah's class. Deepest sympathies to her loved ones."
Meanwhile, stars also expressed their condolences on Twitter. "My thoughts go out to the family of Sarah Guyard-Guillot, an amazing performer in KA who died last night. Original cast member. So Sad," Neil Patrick Harris tweeted.
Nina Dobrev also shared her sentiments and tweeted, "Shocked and saddened by the news of Cirque du Soleil performer Sarah (Sassoon) Guyard's death. My condolences go to her family."
Many have witnessed the devastating fall of Guyard-Guillot 50 ft above the stage to her death when the seasoned performer slipped free from her safety wire in the Final Battle act during a live performance.
"It went from just watching the show and it being normal to watching someone fall to their death," Aryan Rahman, an audience member, said.
She was pronounced dead at 11:43 p.m. at University Medical Center. The official cause of the performer's death is expected to rule out on Tuesday.
Guyard-Guillot, 31, was part of the original cast of "Ka" since 2006. She had been an acrobat for more than two decades and had been teaching classes to children through the Cirquefit program.
"The entire Cirque du Soleil family is deeply saddened by the accidental death of Sarah (Sassoon) Guyard, artist on the production KA, that happened on Saturday, June 29, in Las Vegas. The artist's immediate family has been informed of the accident," said Cirque du Soleil in a statement.
