Cirque de Soleil Founder Laliberte Consoles Sarah Guyard-Guillot's Family
Sarah Guyard-Guillot, a performer in Las Vegas' Cirque de Soleil has died after she fell 50 ft. from the stage.
Born in Paris, the 31-year-old artist was performing at the MGM Grand's Ka show during the incident. This is presumably the first such tragedy to cast a shadow on the well-known play.
Dan Mosqueda was visiting Las Vegas from Colorado when he decided to give the show a look: He told reporters that Guillot was moving up on a safety wire on the side of the stage before losing grip of the wire and plummeting 50 feet to a pit, Sky News reported.
At first the audience, the fall was a part of the show. But later they could hear a screams, groans and then a woman crying, said Mosqueda.
The founder of the show, Guy Laliberte said in a statement, "I am heartbroken. I wish to extend my sincerest sympathies to the family. We are reminded with great humility and respect how extraordinary our artists are each and every night," reports BBC News.
He also said the show would be suspended temporarily for the time being.
Guillord had two daughters and she performed in Ka from 2006. She was an acrobat artist for twenty years.
According to EDGE San Francisco, "Ka features one of the most awe-inspiring and technically advanced stages ever created. Like all Cirque shows, Ka combines dance, acrobatics and performance art, this time adding a heavy dose of pyrotechnics, aerial displays, and breathtaking stunt work that will leave you gasping in disbelief."
