Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Clippers and Houston Rockets Pursuing Corey Brewer
The Minnesota Timberwolves have once again made small forward Corey Brewer available via trades and several NBA teams are listening. Top contenders Houston Rockets, Cleveland Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Clippers are among the teams reported by ESPN to have an interest in the veteran swingman.
The 28 year-old former number 7 pick by the Timberwolves in the 207 NBA Draft has been placed on and off the trade block in the past two months stemming from the flip-flopping was ways of General Manager and Coach Flip Saunders. Just last month, the team has progressive talks with the Rockets only to be halted by a number of injuries to starters Rucky Rubio, Kevin Martin and Nikola Pekovic. Saunders described his wingman as "too valuable to trade," given the bereft of personnel.
The team has been using a variety of players in the starting line-up and it also foes not help much that the team is counting on a couple of rookies to deliver this early such as number 1 pick Andrew Wiggins and Zach LaVine. Due to the said development, Saunders declared the season as 'rebuild" isn tead of his earlier pronouncement that the T-wolves were just going through a retool phase after dealing superstar forward Kevin Love to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Incidentally the Cavs are one of the suitors to the services of Brewer. The C avaliers are particularly thin on athletes in the perimeter and are hoping to re-unite the successful tandem of the "touchdown fast breaks" between Love and Brewer. The team is using a variety of veterans to supplant LeBron James during breaks such as James Jones and Mike Miller and is keen to add more weapons to solidify the reserves.
The Houston Rockets have been talking with the Timberwolves since last month and have a variety of assets to flip for the Florida Gators standout. The team can dangle Terrence Jones and Patrick Beverly and a pick in any kind of combination. The Los Angeles Clippers have recently joined the sweepstakes, as it also seeks to improve its small forward position wherein veteran Matt Barnes is currently occupying. The Clippers would have to find a third team as the team is currently capped out to add the $4.7 million salary of Brewer given that it already used its annual mid-level exception on center back-up Spencer Hawes.
