Cleveland Kidnap Victim Amanda Berry's Dying Father Shares His Pain for His daughter
In an interview with the National Enquirer, Cleveland kidnapping victim Amanda Berry's father John Berry revealed that her daughter still suffers nightmares caused by her ten years of captivity.
Mr. Berry is dying from a noxious pulmonary disease but he cannot help himself from crying for what her daughter Amanda had went through. He said that Amanda still suffers in her sleep, dreaming about Ariel Castro coming and getting her.
Mr. Berry said that, "Amanda's having a terrible time. She's having nightmares every night, waking up screaming and crying, terrified that Castro is coming after her, or that she's still a prisoner. She's told me she's afraid her freedom is a dream and she's going to wake up to the horror of finding out she is still a prisoner."
Mr. Berry is almost paralyzed following his recent back surgery and he is just wearing a neck brace to hold him up. But his current situation does not hinder him from feeling a great amount of anger towards Ariel Castro. He said that since he had no more strength to kill Ariel Castro, he hopes that the monster rot in jail.
From his deathbed in Elizabethton in Tennessee, Mr. Berry said that "If I could get my hands on that monster Castro, I'd kill him myself! If I can't kill him, I don't want the state to execute him. That would be too easy for him. I want him in prison for the rest of his life. I know people in there who can make his life a living hell for what he did to Amanda. I want to beat the shit out of him every single day."
Mr. Berry sadly recalled that the last time he saw her daughter was when Amanda was working at a local Burger King. Now, with only his limited time, it was too painful for him to think that he may no longer see her again. He also wished to see his granddaughter.
But Mr. Berry shared that even if meeting with them in person seemed impossible given the situation, Amanda had called him twice since her escape.
"When she called me, her voice was the most beautiful sound I ever heard. She said Hi daddy. Im still alive, I love you, I love you, I love you! We were both crying... it was the happiest day of my life."
Mr. Berry was married to Louwana Miller, Amanda's mother, up until the month before Amanda was kidnapped. His wife died in the year of 2005.
Mr. Berry admitted that he was not the perfect father to Amanda but he definitely loves her. "I can't say I was the best dad in the world. I feel a lot of guilt that I wasn't there for Amanda when she needed me. If I had known where she was, I would have gotten a gun and gone over there and gotten her out myself, but we had no idea. It was like she just disappeared off the face of the earth.
Meanwhile, attorneys for Amanda Berry, Gina de Jesus and Michelle Knight released a statement confirming that three women were now moving on with their respective lives.
According to the statement, "These three brave women have asked as to give this message to everyone who has expressed concern and support. Amanda, Gina and Michelle want you to know they are doing well. They are happy and safe and continue to heal, a process that requires time and privacy. To have complete strangers offer loving support in the form of money, goods and services, reaching out to help like a family member, is appreciated in ways that are impossible to put into words."
