Coles customers donate over $1 million for Queensland flood appeal
Customers of Wesfarmer’s (ASX: WES) Coles supermarkets have donated over $1 million to help the victims of the Queensland flood disaster.
Coles Operations Director Stuart Machin said the customer donation tally was in addition to the $1 million Coles has donated to the Queensland Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal.
“We’ve been thrilled with the generosity our customers across the country have shown for this appeal,” Mr Machin said.
Mr Machin said that while the greatest percentage of the customer donations has come from Queensland, customers around Australia have rallied to help the flood victims.
“It’s been very heartening to see customers from other states rally to support Queenslanders who are battling such difficult circumstances.”
Coles said it has also been supporting its Queensland fresh produce suppliers, relaxing quality specifications to help suppliers sell fruit and vegetables which have suffered cosmetic blemishes during the floods.
Customers can donate to the QLD Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal at the registers of Coles, BI-LO and Pick ‘n Pay stores across Australia.
