The receivers of the bankrupt retailer Clive Peeters will close six stores out of its 44 location sites as the company is in preparation for sale. The closure will affect at least 75 jobs.

Phil Carter, one of Clive Peeters receivers and owner of specialitsts PPB said that stores based in Townsville, Ipswitch, Warnambool, Bunbury and Canning Vale wil close at June 15, Tuesday.

“The receivers, with the assistance of key management, conducted a review of individual store performance and identified these stores as unsustainable,” Mr Carter said.

“It is disappointing that these closures will result in job losses up to 75 out of a total of 1200 staff, but we have minimised the impact of this by redeploying employees into other stores as far as possible.”

Mr. Carter also said the receivers have confirmed supply arrangements with 20 of its suppliers. This includes Clive Peeter's largest suppliers, Panasonic and Electrolux.

He said that preparation for the sale of the company is almost complete.

“We have experienced strong interest in the sale process and have requested submissions of non-binding offers by next Friday, 18 June. We then propose to deal with shortlisted parties only,” he said.

He said the company will honor all remaining gift certificates until June 30.

Mr. Carter and PPB partner Daniel Bryant were commissioned as Receivers and Managers of Clive Peeters on May 19.
