Comic Book Characters Brought to Life: From 'The Amazing Spiderman' to 'Thor' [PHOTOS]
Marvel Comics' "The Avengers" are raking up millions as the star-studded cast pulled over $80.5 million dollars on its debut last Friday. To date, the film of superheroes has a tight hold on the world as millions still flock to see "The Avengers" in action. While the cast of "Avengers Assemble" prove to be the best of comic book characters brought to life, a few other films paid homage to all time comic book favorites. From "The Amazing Spiderman" to "Thor", take a peek at the men who brought these suited figures to life.
Of course who could ever forget "The Man of Steel", "Superman"? Christopher Reeve was the first Clark Kent to grace the screen who wore the iconic blue and red plus the curl on the top of the head. The 1978 "Superman" however is a far cry from the 2006 version brought to life by the handsome, Brandon Routh. Surprisingly, a little twist at the end of the film reveals Clark Kent fathers the next generation of "Superman". Since 2012 does have a few film remakes in store, does anybody foresee Brandon Routh's' kid taking up where he left off?
Marvel Comics' very own, "Ghost Rider" was also made into film starring Nicolas Cage. The 2007 film with the lovely, Eva Mendez may have been a hit for avid fans but the 2011 sequel titled "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" was such a flop that it only raked up $45 million during its debut.
Mark Ruffalo may play "The Hulk" in "Avengers Assemble" but before him were a few others. Edward Norton plays the "Genius turned Green Giant" in the 2008 version of "The Incredible Hulk" while Eric Bana played Bruce Banner in the 2003 version. Both films did unexpectedly well with $55.4 million and $62.1 million respectively.
"The Dark Knight Rises" is another comic book favorite that is soon to hit the cinemas. Though it won't be the first time for Christian Bale to suit up in the leather ensemble, Christian had a few "Batman" flicks before of which also starred Heath Ledger.
The "X-Men" films are all in all action packed and visually entertaining but nothing compares to "X-Men Origins: Wolverine". Robert Downey Jr. may have found his match in the sarcastic yet stunning, Hugh Jackman. The adamantine wielding wolf proves to be as snarky as the man behind the big suit, "Iron Man".
"Captain America's" Chris Evans and "Thor's" Chris Hemsworth are two other "Avengers" who have perfectly captured the essence of their comic book superheroes. Other recent films or those yet to hit the cinema include Taylor Kitsch in "John Carter" and Andrew Garfield in the film remake of "The Amazing Spiderman".
