Commando-style Underwear Makes Its Female Designer a Millionaire
Because underwear, as the name implies, are apparel that people wear underneath their outer wear, many people tend to either just wear anything since it is hidden anyway or don't bother anymore to wear a panty, bra or brief - even when in public.
Hollywood actors such as Eva Longoria, Gwyneth Paltrow and Amy Adams have been caught on camera show their bush or tush or allow other private body parts to peek intentionally or unintentionally at the front and back bumpers or crotch areas.
Rather than imitate these celebrities, Kerry O'Brien decided instead to make her own underwear line for women using materials and design that shows no visible panty lines when wearing figure-hugging bottoms or cuts through the skin because of the tight garters that suffocates the wearer.
The result was a company that Ms O'Brien aptly named in 2003 Commando to support her belief that breasts and butts should not be coverless but covered in seamless, body-hugging material that would enhance the wearer, not constrict them.
Modern medical science also supports the theory that bras are actually not healthy for women's health. Jean-Denis Riuillon, a sports medicine specialist at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire, declared in a radio interview, "Medically, physiologically, anatomically - breasts gain no benefit from being denied gravity."
Ms O'Brien initially came out with soft bra inserts that make women buxom then followed it up with panties that do not have seams and elastic waist and leg bands despite warning from manufacturers that the fabric would unravel.
The thong with no waistband and no trims was introduced to the market which lapped the products. Its soft and comfortable microfiber that laid flat against the skin and is not visible on outer clothes fit the tagline for Commando's underwear line with the slogan "Better Than Nothing."
Since then, there was no looking back for Ms O'brien with her Commando underwear now in the shelves of 1,000 stores and boutiques across the U.S., including known retailers such as Bloomingdale's, Saks and Neiman Marcus.
She has, in fact, caught the attention of the Council of Fashion Designers of America which invited her - one of the few lingerie designers - to be a part of the council.
Motley Fool noted though that going commando is the easiest, cheapest and fastest way to lighten a person's wardrobe's environmental footprints, those who are still on the conservative side have Ms O'Brien's Commando undies as alternative over wear ill-fitting and flesh constricting standard undies.
Meanwhile, Ms O'Brien is sashaying her way to the bank in her most comfortable Commando underwar.
