Commonwealth Bank raises funds for Queensland flood-affected cricket clubs
The Commonwealth Bank of Australia (ASX: CBA) has announced a major fundraising initiative for Queensland’s flood affected cricket clubs. The bank said this initiative will be held at the fifth Commonwealth Bank Series One-Day International in Brisbane on Sunday, 30 January 2011.
As part of this Fours and Sixes for Local Pitches initiative, Commonwealth Bank will donate $4,000 for every four and $6,000 for every six hit by both Australian and English batsmen at the Brisbane match.
Commbank said all money raised on the day will go towards supporting cricket clubs across Queensland to help rebuild damaged pitches and replace equipment lost in the recent floods.
Spectators at the match will also be able to help out, with Commonwealth Bank volunteers collecting donations for the Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal throughout the day.
Commonwealth Bank Chief Executive Ralph Norris said the impact of the floods has been felt far and wide.
“In times of adversity like this, it is heartening to see how Australians can get together and support each other,”
“We are a proud supporter of cricket at all levels, from the grandstands to the grassroots, and we want to get Queensland cricket clubs back up and running as soon as possible,” he said.
Commonwealth Bank has already donated over $1.375 million to support flood relief across Queensland in the past month.
