‘Constantine' Season 2 Moves To Syfy, To Be Titled 'Hellblazer'—Report
According to reports, “Constantine” may be renewed for a Season 2 but it would be moved from NBC to Syfy. Likewise, its title will be dropped as it moves to a different channel and will instead be called “Hellblazer.”
Sources told Cinelinx that NBC actually has plans of keeping “Constantine” and are looking for ways to give it a Season 2. The show has gotten quite a following, and when reports said the show might end at 13 episodes instead of 22, fans rallied their support, and the Internet and social media became flooded with #SaveConstantine posts. Thus, according to sources, NBC is thinking of moving the show to its cable cousin Syfy and rebranding it with its original DC comic book series title “Hellblazer.”
According to Screenrant, having the show in Syfy will open it to more creative changes when it comes to playing up its horror and supernatural elements. The darker elements in “Constantine” will reportedly be freely explored when it moves to Syfy, which will help gain a broader fanbase. The site claims some fans believed the “procedural elements” of the show hampered its storytelling.
Moving “Constantine” to Syfy and naming it “Hellblazer” will reportedly not totally make it a different series. It’s believed the move will only give the show some tweaks to make it more appealing to viewers, to make it darker as what fans supposedly wanted it to begin with. According to Screenrant, NBC’s plan of moving the show to Syfy will also likely mean moving the entire current cast and its creative staff over to “Hellblazer.” However, NBC has yet to formally announce the move. According to Cinelinx, as of now it is still a popular idea being discussed by NBC.
NBC president Jennifer Salke once said during a TCA Press tour held on Jan. 6 that the fate of “Constantine” having a Season 2 is “still up in the air.” She claimed show heads are “still talking” about it. According to Entertainment Weekly, Salke also hoped the show could have “done better live.” “It has a big viewership after [it airs] in all kinds of ways and it has a younger audience, but the live number is challenging,” she said.
