Miss New York, Nina Duvuluri, an Indian-American contestant was crowned last Sunday as Miss America 2014. Her victory sparked outrage on social media parituclary on Tweeter where many felt that the new Miss America is not a "true" American.

According to CNN, the tweets that followed the pageant in Atlantic City didn't focus on how it's the second consecutive year that a Miss New York has taken the crown, or about the judge's questions.
They were about Davuluri's heritage.

Miss New York is the Miss America.

But the controversy does not end there, the newly crowned Miss America allegedly made a comment to 2013 Miss America Mallory Hagan calling her, "fat as f*ck."

Hollywood Life quoted the source that spoke to the Post and said the new Miss America "invited friends back to her hotel room after her win. A girl in the next room overheard their conversation, and was so offended she decided to tape part of it."

The insider continued: "A friend of Davuluri was supposedly heard making racist remarks, and Davuluri is allegedly heard on the tape blasting Miss America, saying, 'Mallory's fat as f*ck.'"

2013 Miss America

The story doesn't have any validity according to a rep for Miss America. International Business Times reported that Duvuluri took to her Facebook page to set the record straight.

"I want to apologize for the awful statements made by people in my room," she wrote. "There were people who claimed to be my supporters and said things I never agreed with, nor supported...I was never a part of the words or statements that may have been hurtful...I'm sorry if someone said something that was inappropriate."

Nina Duvuluri is indeed the new face of Miss America as she played up her differences from the traditional idea of the pageant. During her talent portion, she performed a Bollywood Fusion style dance and she said, "Miss America has always been the girl next door, but Miss America is evolving and she is not going to look the same", in her video bio.

Miss New York is the new Miss America.

It was no surprise that when asked about her opnion about Julie Chen's decision for plastic surgery, she simply says, "I don't agree with plastic surgery, however I can understand that from a standpoint. More importantly I've always viewed Miss America as the girl next door. And Miss America is always evolving... I wouldn't want to change someone's looks. Be confident in who you are."
