Cory Monteith: Emmy Awards Producers Planning To Stage A Tribute To Late Glee Star [PHOTOS]
The Producers of the upcoming'The 65th ANNUAL EMMY AWARDS', airing September 22nd on CBS will pay tribute to late Glee star Cory Monteith. The actor was found dead in his Vancouver hotel room on July 13th as a result of an accidental drug overdose.
Emmy Awards executive producer Ken Ehrlich told the site exclusively that the broadcast will include "something that reflects an homage" to the late star, but added, "what the extent of that is, or how we're going to approach it... well, it's too early to tell."
The producer revealed that his ability to present a proper tribute to Monteith could create logistical problems for the three-hour broadcast. "If Cory had passed away in March, we'd have had four months to look at this with a little more perspective," he explained. "The reason we're getting all of this discussion now is because he passed away two weeks ago. But we are going to deal with it."
He shared that the special segment will most likely include music and be presented separately from the annual "In Memorium" segment which honors those who have passed away over the past year.
Monteith, who was dating his Glee co-star and Broadway vet Lea Michele, starred in the film Monte Carlo, opposite Leighton Meester, Selena Gomez and Katie Cassidy. His other film credits include FINAL DESTINATION 3, THE INVISIBLE, DECK THE HALLS, and WHISPER. He left rehab in April of 2013, after voluntarily admitting himself to a treatment facility for substance addiction in March of 2013.
His television credits include a lead role on the series "Kaya" and a recurring guest-star role on KYLE XY. He has also made numerous guest appearances on television shows, including SMALLVILLE, SUPERNATURAL, STARGATE, FLASH GORDON, and INTERNS. Additionally, he starred in the 2007 television movie HYBRID.
Born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Monteith moved to Vancouver Island at a very young age. Throughout his life he has held jobs as a Wal-Mart greeter, a school bus driver, a roofer and a cab driver, before pursuing a career in acting.
