Counterattack Fired towards the Host of The Circle After Criticizing an Australian War Hero - Ben Roberts-Smith
The host of The Circle, a Channel 10 program, is in the hot seat after criticizing Ben Roberts-Smith, winner of the Victoria Cross. A heavy counterattack was thrown towards the host after describing one of the nation's greatest war heroes as brainless.
Along with the criticism were pictures of him shirtless in a pool aired on TV in a Monday morning show hosted by Yumi Stunes and the expert journalist George Negus.
Negus giggled about Yumi's comments on the picture and added that Ben could be a useless root.
Cpl Roberts-Smith was interviewed on Sunday Night, a day before he was criticized on The Circle. The interview revealed that an IVF treatment was used by him and his wife to have twin daughters.
His daughters were only five months old when he displayed bravery during an attack in the province of Afghanistan. He drew a machine-gun fire at the Tizak village, which enabled his commander to toss a grenade into the Taliban bunker. He quickly attacked the bunker all by himself and killed two members. Troops then followed and cleared the area from Taliban soldiers.
Because of the incident he was the second soldier to receive the Australian Victoria Cross since 1991.
This morning, Yumi announced that she's getting married. Her revelation made commentators think that she may be just creating another issue that would distract the growing repercussions she's receiving from yesterday's incident.
Yesterday, the TV show expressed their apologies through Facebook. The Circle's FB page called "Gotta love live T.V.!" posted a status message saying sorry to anyone who got offended by their comments.
The message added that feedback is essential for them and that the show is thankful for the inputs viewers provide every day.
