CP3, Clippers Host Bulls Sans Rose: Chicago Bulls vs. Los Angeles Clippers [PREVIEW]
This should have been a marquee match-up between two of the best point guards in the NBA. Rather it’s appears to be a lopsided one when the Chicago Bulls visit the Los Angeles Clippers Sunday afternoon between one of the top-scoring teams in the league and one of the best on the other end.
A day after starring against the Sacramento Kings, Chris Paul and the Clippers face a Bulls squad still smarting from a loss to the Portland Trail Blazers and will be playing without Derrick Rose because of an injured right knee.
Paul hit a crucial free throw with 2.5 seconds left to give the Clippers the 103-102 win over the Kings and the Bulls collapsed without their star guard losing the game to the Blazers, 98-95 even after building a 21-point lead.
The Bulls have one of the stingiest defenses in the league allowing only 90.5 points per game—good for third in the league. However, they have lost back to back games-- both on the road-- and need other players to step up in lieu of Rose to avoid a three-game losing streak.
Chicago will look to Carlos Boozer (16.2 PPG an 8.9 RPG) and Luol Deng 15.7 PPG and 7.7 RPG to assume more of the scoring load for the Bulls, which are in the midst a long six-game road trip with visits to Utah, Detroit and Cleveland still coming after the game against L.A.
Meanwhile, the Clips have won six of their last eight games. Against the Kings, Paul finished with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists—the first time he failed to log in a double-double after establishing a league-record 13 consecutive games with at least 10 points and 10 assists.
The Clippers are second in the NBA in scoring at 107.0 PPG led by Blake Griffin (22.5 PPG and 10.7 RPG), Paul (19.5 PPG, 5.3 RPG and 12.2 APG) and J.J. Redick (15.8 PPG).
