The Crazy Ones: Robin Williams Feels Wonderful to be back on T.V. after 32 Years
He is back. Academy award winner Robin Williams is back on T.V. after a gap of more than three decades in CBS new comedy, 'The Crazy Ones'. He plays ad executive Simon Roberts who runs a small advertising agency Roberts+Roberts in Chicago along with his daughter Sydney Roberts, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Created by David E. Kelley, the one-camera comedy series is Robin Williams first show on T.V. after 'Mork & Mindy' that went off-air in 1982. The actor appeared on 'The Tonight Show With Jay Leno' and said that it was "wonderful" to be back on T.V after 32 years with Sarah Gellar. Comparing now to then, the actor feels that it is now more relaxed. Also, the competition was less then and now it is an "open field."
"The last time I was on TV, 'wired' meant a gram and a bottle of Jack Daniel's," Robin Williams said, as quoted in USA Today.
The one similarity that both 'Mork & Mindy' and 'The Crazy Ones' have is that they "allow him lots of room to improvise. Oh, and he is happy with them both."
"I love it. It's great to have a steady gig after all this time," he said. "It's wonderful."
According to Huffington Post Gellar said that she kind of indirectly stalked Robin Williams to bag the role alongside him. "I happen to have known his best man at his wedding, so I tracked down his best man and said 'you might want to mention to Robin that I'm a big fan and very interested,' and that's sort of what got the ball rolling."
James Wolk will play the role of Zach Cropper in this CBS's new comedy series. Talking about his character, he told The Blacklot in an interview, "Zach doesn't want to grow up. He's the office lothario, he loves going on these wild adventures with Simon and B.S.-ing his way through meetings. I think there's going to be a lot of fun to be seen there with Zack. He's really going to enjoy the ride."
The premiere episode of 'The Crazy Ones' is due to air on Thursday, September 26. Time: 9:00-9:30 p.m. ET. The popular CBS sitcom 'The Big Bang Theory' will lead into the premiere episode of Robin Williams' comedy series.
