Cricket: New Zealand Looks To Oust Aussies Out of Champions Trophy
Mills: Eliminating Australia Will Be Satisfying
The New Zealand National Cricket Team has set the bar higher for their upcoming Champions Trophy clash with Australia as they try to deal another big blow on the Baggy Green's title defense at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham, England.
Coming off a gutty one wicket victory over the Sri Lankans, the Black Caps shifted their attention to their trans-Tasman rivals who are fighting for their dear lives in the match.
Australia can't afford to lose another match in the group stages after absorbing a 48-run beating at the hands of the Three Lions in the Champions Trophy opener.
However, the Kiwis are going for the kill on Wednesday as veteran fast bowler Kyle Mills and his explosive batsmen attempt to book a seat in the semifinal round and eliminate the Aussies out of the tourney.
A day before their highly anticipated showdown, Mills gave a hint of what to expect from them in the crucial match, including their tactics against Australia's top order.
"All their top order will be feeling the heat a little bit to not only win the game but also hold their spot in the team," Mills told the Nine MSN on Monday. "If we can take advantage of that I'm sure it will bode well for us in those pressure situations."
Mills added that they will try to contain Australian Opener Warner and middle order-man Adam Vogues and keep Shane Watson from becoming a big factor in the match.
"The last time I played Australia was in the last Champions Trophy final (2009). Watson got the hundred ... and he's the key wicket for those guys I feel," said Mills, who believes winning against the Aussies will be more satisfying than their victory against England in an ODI Series.
However, history tells that Australia is the favourite heading into Wednesday contest, having won 81 of 119 games with the Black Caps.
The Australia-New Zealand match is scheduled on July 12 (10:00 a.m) at Edgbaston Cricket Field in Birmingham.
