Cristiano Ronaldo has caused scare in the Portugal team after he reportedly cut his recent training session and left the field with an ice pack on his left knee.

The Guardian reported that Ronaldo was seen "limping off" the football field raising fear that the Real Madrid striker may not be fit at all to play in Portugal's first match against Germany on June 16. The 29-year-old footballer reportedly had to cut his training session suggesting that he might still be aching his tendinitis injury.

Ronaldo only trained for 15 to 20 minutes, just warming up and doing some physical exercises, the news outlet further reported. He didn't get to participate in full ball drills and just sat on the bench.

However, Ronaldo's teammate Joao Moutinho played down apprehensions about Ronaldo's fitness. Moutinho said that nothing is wrong with Ronaldo.

"Ever since he started to train with us, he has been 100% like the rest of us," said Moutinho.

"Everything is fine with him but there is some caution, not only with him."

Moutinho said that Ronaldo wasn't the only one who used an ice pack during the training session. "There is nothing to worry about. The ice is normal after training."

Meanwhile, Germany's head coach Joaquim Loew said in a press conference as reported by ESPN that they need to stop Ronaldo if they want to beat Portugal in one of the exciting opening group games.

"Who do I have at my disposal that can keep Ronaldo on a tight range and in shackles for this game," said Loew.

"Phillip Lahm has done that to Ronaldo and Jerome Boateng has done just well before."

"I need to find a player that can keep Ronaldo in check during this game, that's not something that you can do on your own, cannot simply mark him one-to-one," Loew said.

The Germans have never lost in their opening games in the last six World Cups. Will the Germans be able to continue their streak or will Ronaldo be the key player to put an end to it?

Portugal will play Germany on June 16.
