Soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo paid almost $20m to the mother of his child just so she would keep her mouth shut, according to reports.

British newspaper The Sun says The Real Madrid star transferred the money into her account on Monday in return for her giving up any rights to see the child and swearing her to total secrecy.

Cristiano, 25, is said to have described it as "the most expensive day of my life."
The woman in question is believed to be"a party girl" and not someone Ronaldo would "settle down" with.

"He paid nearly a year's wages but it's more than worth it," a source said.
"He's called it the most expensive day of his life, but at least he has sole custody."

The 9lb 8oz boy - born on June 17 - is staying with Ronaldo's family in Portugal's Algarve.

He wants his mother Dolores and sister to help raise his son.
