Cristiano Ronaldo tops Facebook celebrity list, Real Madrid star turns to Eminem for motivation

Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo continues to lead celebrities with the most followers on social media.

The 31-year-old Portuguese football star has so far accumulated over 117 million followers on the popular social media site. Ronaldo’s Facebook fans increased significantly from the 104 million followers he had a year ago.

The volume of Ronaldo’s Facebook fans is far from the second placer, Shakira, the Columbian singer who ranks next with 104.5 million followers.

Ronaldo also accumulated more than 200 million followers across different social media sites, according to Hookit. He garnered 47.3 million followers on microblogging site Twitter and 78.9 million on photo-and-video-sharing site Instagram.

This propelled his ascent to the 200 million club which has an elite membership that includes international pop artists Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift.

For his first Instagram Story, Ronaldo shared a short video documenting his haircut. While the soccer star gets his hair fixed, he listens to Eminem’s 2002 hip hop single “Fight Music” with Detroit rap group D12.

Aside from his social media fame, Ronaldo is also the world’s highest paid-athlete. According to Forbes magazine, Ronaldo made US$56 million from his sports career, apart from the US$32 million he earned from various endorsements between June 2015 and June 2016. The three-time FIFA best player in the world is also ranked fourth on Forbes Celebrity 100 list for 2016.
