'Curb Your Enthusiasm' season 9 spoilers: Larry David, JB Smoove return to LA from Paris
The six-year wait for HBO comedy series "Curb Your Enthusiasm" season 9 will end on Oct. 1. After shooting most of season 8 in New York City, the cast will be returning to Los Angeles for the forthcoming season.
During the season finale of season 8, Larry David and roommate JB Smoove (Leon Black) flee from New York to Paris to avoid taking part in a charity fundraiser hosted by Michael J Fox. Earlier in the season, David fled from his home in Los Angeles to New York to bolt from a special needs children's event hosted by Michael McKean (Matt Tessler). The season ends with David and Smoove walking the streets of Paris.
While the ninth season could likely begin with David and Smoove's adventures in France, the producers recently confirmed it was filmed exclusively L.A. In 2011, David, the co-creator of "Seinfeld," said in an interview that the HBO production crew had difficulty dealing with vocal New York crowds. In fact, he cited the vocal crowds as the reason the show will avoid further trips to the Big Apple.
"There were very big crowds watching us film in New York as opposed to L.A., where you can't get one person to stop. In New York, they're very vocal and really tend to be enthusiastic. And in L.A. they're pretty blasé about TV shows filming there, I guess because so many do. Nobody really cares, because they see so much of it," David told The Huffington Post when discussing the challenges of filming in New York.

Jeff Garlin, who portrays the character of Jeff Greene, recently told ABC News that the extended gap between seasons 8 (2011) and 9 (2017) did not hurt the chemistry between David and Smoove.
"It felt like putting on an old pair of shoes. The first scene I shot was with Larry (David) and JB Smoove, who plays Leon. And we all began laughing because there was no hiccups, there was nothing," said Garlin, hinting at a possible carryover from the season 8 storyline.
Garlin noted that the cast didn't feel any rust despite the lengthy hiatus. "Here’s the thing on 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' and this has happened for years. Larry and I will be getting ready to start a scene. Cameras are rolling. And I look at him and he looks at me and we have no idea what the scene's about. Not a clue. And then they tell us. And we turn it back on and start rolling because we don’t rehearse. We never rehearse. But that keeps it fresh."
Last Sunday, HBO released a press release to confirm the return of cast members David, Smoove, Garlin and Susie Essman (Susie Greene). However, several reports have earmarked the return of Cheryl Hines (Cheryl David), Ted Danson (himself), Mary Steenburgen (herself), Richard Lewis (himself) and Bob Einstein (Marty Funkhouser). Former Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham has already been confirmed as a guest star.
