Cyclist Greg Henderson of New Zealand’s Sky team has won a sprint finish Monday, taking second stage of the Paris-Nice cycling race.

According to the Agence France Presse, Henderson had timed 5hr 00min 56 sec during the race edging his way ahead of Matthew Goss of Australia and Denis Galimzyanov of Russia.

“It was a very fast sprint at the end of a very tiring and nervy day,” Henderson said, according to AFP.

The cyclist then explained how he dashed to the end of the line.

Henderson said, “Thankfully, I could count on Geraint Thomas, he has this capacity to spark the sprint. It was a long sprint but feeling victory within my grasp gave me wings”.

Henderson revealed his plans for the cycling race and what would be his next steps.

“The next stage? I’m going to try and go after the yellow jersey,” said Henderson, who as noted by AFP is just 4 seconds shy of Thomas de Gendt of Belgium’s Vacansoleil.

The AFP noted that de Gendt has recorded a 199km-run from Montfort-l'Amaury, west of Paris, to Amilly in central France.

"My objective is the Tour de France, I'm hoping to race it this year unlike last year. We have an impressive team so it's hard to win a place," Henderson said.
