Czech Tennis Star Tomas Berdych Reveals How He Proposed To Model Girlfriend Ester Satorova
World No. 7 Tomas Berdych and model girlfriend Ester Satorova are now engaged. The couple announced their engagement during an interview with Rachael Finch for Channel Seven News at Melbourne Botanical Gardens on Jan. 20 but before Berdych has gotten up the nerve to ask his girlfriend, he had to come up with a creative plan to pop the question.
In an interview with Australian Open after his second round victory, Berdych revealed how he proposed to Satorova. According to the 29-year-old Czech tennis star, the proposal came during the holidays after the 2014 season. He said it was simple and they both had a good time.
“Actually, it was funny - I had some plan on how to do it, but like three days we get pretty bad weather, so it’s almost impossible to do that,” Berdych recalled. “Then it (the weather) was nice and they help us to make a nice setup, it was like after the dinner on the beach.”
Berdych revealed that he doesn’t have any worries as he enters a new phase in his life. He said that he feels a good balance between his tennis career and personal life. Berdych said that it is nice to be able to step away from tennis for a little bit and talk to his partner about normal things in life. Having a supportive partner outside of tennis helps Berdych recharge his energy and spirit so when he comes back to playing tennis again, he feels much more focused.
On Jan. 20, TV presenter Finch took to Instagram to deliver the good news about Berdych and Satorova’s engagement. “Botanical Gardens, Melbourne where I just interviewed @tomasberdych + @estersatorova to announce their engagement!! Congratulations to the glowing couple!! #7Sport #australianopen2015,” Finch wrote.
According to an article by Daily Mail, Berdych and Satorova began dating in late 2012. It was after Berdych broke up with fellow tennis player Lucie Safarova, whom he had been in a relationship with for eight years.
Berdych began his quest to win the Australian Open title on Jan. 19. His best finish in the tournament was when he made it to the last eight in 2005.
