Dakota Kai Opens Up On Stunning SummerSlam Debut
SummerSlam 2022 proved to be a great pay-per-view from top to bottom for WWE despite the card not looking all that great initially.
The main event was certainly one that fans have continued to talk about while there were also subtle commentary changes that hint at the top-tier pro wrestling company making a turn for the better.
The most talked about happening at the event in Nashville, Tennessee was the surprising return of Bayley, who had been out of action for a long while as she recovered from a torn ACL.
She did not return alone though as former NXT women’s standouts Iyo Sky (formerly Io Shirai) and Dakota Kai made their main roster debuts at that time.
Kai’s return to WWE was most surprising since dirt sheets were not able to leak any information regarding her SummerSlam appearance after having been released from the company in April.
Kai appeared on the latest episode of WWE’s The Bump to talk about her aligning with Bayley and revealed that her return happened at the “last minute.”
Bayley’s newly-formed trio walked into the ring to confront Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair after her victory over Becky Lynch in the opening match of SummerSlam and they continued to terrorize Belair on the August 1 episode of Raw.
“This has been something we've wanted for years. The fact that it actually happened and to be under her (Bayley) guidance is insane because she's literally amazing and great. To be alongside these two women is a dream,” Kai said of her alliance with Bayley and Sky.
The trio went after Lynch on Raw after she made her announcement that she is dealing with a separated shoulder from SummerSlam and they also attacked Asuka and Alexa Bliss during their match.
With Triple H at the helm of WWE’s creative team, Bayley’s group could be the ones to welcome back Sasha Banks and Naomi after rumors came out that they had agreed to terms to return to WWE.
After all, Kai is certainly optimistic about how far they can go as a group.
“I think a lot of change is about to happen and I'm glad I can be part of this wave. We're definitely going to make ourselves known,” she gleefully noted.
Kai and Sky making their main roster debuts was certainly a patented Triple H call as they were crucial components in making the second rendition of NXT become such a major success, with Kai joining in 2015 and Sky in 2017.
Fans are eager to witness what storyline will be laid out for them on next week’s Raw and whether this leads back to the reinstitution of the women’s tag titles.
