Suburbs damaged by the flood waters in Brisbane may not be rebuilt says Premier Anna Bligh as residents prepare for another wave of flooding.

The newly established Queensland Reconstruction Authority may look into banning rebuilding in flooded areas even if it is not in accordance with local planning laws.

Premier said in a statement that she owed it to the families of those who died in the floods to "make the right decisions" about rebuilding. "We owe it to those families and their children to make the right decisions," Bligh said."The last thing we want to do is rebuild in the same place and see that house flooded again in two or three years' time."

Authorities have been discussing on the best ways to rebuild the state. The government is determined to fully rebuild the damage without straying from its goal of having a surplus in the budget in 2012-13

Strong rains continue to fall in the state with flash floods indundated Rockhampton town. "There is significant potential . . . for suburban creek flooding," said , Brisbane Lord Mayor Campbell Newman.

Current estimates peg the Queensland flooding death toll at 33 people in the past month, majority of the deaths occurred in southeast Queensland's Lockyer Valley.
