‘Dancing With The Stars’ Season 21: Tamar Braxton withdraws due to health problem, four couples in semi-finals [WATCH VIDEO]
“Dancing With The Stars” Season 21 moves on to the semi-finals with its Week 10 episode on Monday. In a major development, celebrity contestant Tamar Braxton has withdrawn from the competition due to medical problems so there are only four couples who will be vying for a place in the finals, which will be held on Nov. 23.
According to People, Braxton revealed on Wednesday that she has blood clots in her lungs and was dropping out of the competition. ABC confirmed the news.
“We can confirm that Tamar Braxton asked to withdraw from the competition due to medical issues. Our pro and celebrity dancers’ health is paramount,” the network said in a statement to ET Online. They wished her all the best and hoped that she recovered quickly.
Braxton was hospitalised during dress rehearsals just before week 9. Her pro partner Val Chmerkovskiy said she was suffering from pneumonia. She missed most of Monday night’s live show due to her illness but was not eliminated from the competition after making a last-minute return for the team dance at the end of the episode.
The R&B singer is not the only celebrity contestant this Season who was forced to withdraw from the competition due to health reasons. Kim Zolciak Biermann withdrew from DWTS after she said she suffered a blood clot that caused a mini stroke in September.
The DWTS producers looked at all possible aspects including bringing back Alexa Pena Vega, who was eliminated last week. But they later decided that only the four couples would compete in Week 10.
The pairs will have to do three dances, according to Wetpaint. There will be individual dances, dance-off challenge where the pairs will be pitted against each other. The two couples who win the dance-off challenge will get three points. These points will be added to the points received for the two previously scheduled dances the couples have been preparing: one featuring a dance style they have not danced yet this Season and another as a trio featuring a second pro dancer of their choice.
However, a press release by ABC did not talk about eliminations in Week 10 od DWTS, Buddy TV reported. Get a sneak peek of how Bindi and Derek prepare themselves for the semi-finals.
