Daniel Cudmore played the role of Piotr Rasputin a.k.a. Colossus in three of Marvel’s “X-Men” films. He portrayed the character in “Days of Future Past,” (2014), “X2: X-Men United” (2003) and “The Last Stand. (2006).” So it would seem to fans that he would reprise his iconic character in “Deadpool.” However, Cudmore revealed on his Twitter page that he had turned down the role because of how the mutant will be portrayed on film.

On his Twitter post Daniel admitted he was given the opportunity to reprise his Colossus role in “Deadpool” opposite Ryan Reynolds. Collider reports that movie director Tim Miller had offered the role to the actor, but Cudmore politely declined due to filming constraints. Despite not appearing in the film, Daniel couldn’t be more excited to see “Deadpool” on film as he is said to be an avid fan of the character.

His admission gained him respect from some of the commentators who applauded his decision to pass on the role.

Miller also confirmed Cudmore’s revelation that he did call the actor to ask if he wanted to reprise his role as Colossus in “Deadpool” even though the character would entirely be in CG the whole time.

“He was very nice about it. He was like, ‘I appreciate your offering, but nah,’” Miller said during an exclusive interview with Empire Magazine .

Slashfilm reports that there would be no Piotr Rasputin coming out in “Deadpool” as the mutant will entirely be in CG. The film will reveal the character purely in its metal form and this is why Cudmore had graciously declined.

Bryan Singer saw potential in Cudmore to play the mutant hero Colossus in the past “X-Men” films due to his physical abilities. At 6 foot and 8 inches tall, Daniel possesses great athletic and muscular strength that perfectly fits the mutant Piotr Rasputin’s description in the Marvel comics. It was his physical presence that reportedly convinced the “X-Men” director to cast him for the role.

“I eventually had a shirt-off audition to make sure I physically could play a character like that,” Cudmore revealed during his feature interview for Muscle and Fitness magazine.
