Daniel Johns to release solo album, Silverchair still broken up
Reports say Australia's most famous front man is planning to launch his solo career with the songs abandoned by Silverchair's 'indefinite hibernation'.
Daniel Johns, the mind behind Silverchair's much-celebrated output, might release a solo record containing tracks that were intended to be in the band's next supposed album. Sources say most of the songs in the album were already laid out by Johns, with drummer Ben Gillies and bassist Chris Joannou only showing up to record pre-meditated tracks. The album was intended to be a double-CD, but production was stifled due to the surprising anouncement posted in their website. Silverchair's management team has yet to release a statement about Johns plan to release an album, but some of them say it's definitely a "possibility".
In the letter that seemed like Johns wrote it himself, the band expressed the misdirection of their creativity. Silverchair has been preparing for this album since 2009 but after touring and performing some shows in 2010, the band instantly felt the difference that was beginning to break their long 20-year career run. "Despite our best efforts over the last year or so, it's become increasingly clear that the spark simply isn't there between the three of us at the moment", says the band in their goodbye letter.
Newcastle locals Silverchair shocked and thrilled the entire music industry when they proved 12-year-olds can make it out with their smash hit debut Tomorrow in 1994. The band started in their tweens and grew up under an acclaimed status as bona fide rock geniuses, with a respected reputation stretching throughout their entire career. Their 1995 debut album, Frogstomp, sold millions of copies and had multiple #1 hits, including Israel's Son and Shade. Two years later, they released their second album Freak Show followed by the critically-acclaimed gold record Neon Ballroom in 1999. Neon Ballroom contained some of the band's most memorable songs such as Ana's Song, Anthem for the Year 2000 and Miss You Love. Diorama, Silverchair's fourth album in 2002, proved a deeper and more intellectual side to the band, and their 2007 upbeat album Young Modern was their last release. Silverchair has won 21 ARIA awards, more awards than any other Australian artist has ever recieved.
