Daniel Radcliffe, who played the titular character in the Harry Potter franchise, has signed up to star in a movie adaptation of The Woman In Black.

The actor is finally moving on from the boy wizard series to take on the role of Arthur Kipps in Hammer Films and Alliance Films' adaptation of Susan Hill's best-selling novel. Daniel will portray a young lawyer sent to work in a remote house that is haunted by the ghost of a scorned woman seeking vengeance.

The Woman In Black will be his first movie role after shooting the final Harry Potter film earlier this year.

James Watkins will direct the motion picture from a screenplay by Kick Ass' Jane Goldman. Production is scheduled to commence in the autumn.

"I am incredibly excited to be part of The Woman In Black. Jane Goldman's script is beautifully written - both tender and terrifying in equal measure," Daniel said.

"It is thrilling to be working with James Watkins. From his brilliant work on Eden Lake and also having met him and heard his vision for the film, I know he will make a fantastic film."

"When I met Dan, it was quite uncanny how closely our thoughts on the story mirrored each other: I can't wait to get down to work with him to fashion a compelling character and a classy ghost story that tugs at the heart and chills to the bone," James said.
