Darth Vader's apprentice from videogames almost featured in 'Star Wars: Rebels'
A Darth Vader apprentice from a video game franchise almost made it to the “Star Wars: Rebels” TV series. Executive producer Dave Filoni reportedly considered bringing in the character as a new Inquisitor, but eventually dropped the idea as it was not a good fit to the story they were telling on the show.
Galen Marek, also known as Starkiller, was reportedly considered to appear in the animation series. Actor Sam Witwer, who lent his voice to the character Darth Maul on the show, teased this detail during a Twitch stream, Comic Book reports.
“Dave did share with me, by the way, he considered making Starkiller an Inquisitor in Star Wars Rebels,” Witwer said. “It didn’t quite fit the story that they were telling, but he did think about it because he thought that would be interesting.”
The Inqusitors in the animation series are Force wielders trained in the Dark Side. Their main task is to hunt down the surviving members of the Jedi Order.
Galen Marek, on the other hand, is an apprentice to Darth Vader himself. The character appeared in “Force Unleashed” videogames.
Galen has a tragic backstory. He was born on the planet Kashyyk to two Jedi Knights, who fled during the Clone Wars. His mother dies while he was still young, and his father was killed by Darth Vader. Sensing the power of the boy, the Sith Lord decided to train him and exploit his powers. When he grew up, Starkiller’s main job was to hunt down Jedi. Starkiller became a capable assassin, carrying out the orders of his master and killing anyone who stood in his path.
“Star Wars: Rebels” has introduced a lot of characters from the original trilogy and the animation series “Clone Wars.” It will be interesting to see what new characters, if any, will be introduced in the final chapter of the show this year.
