Darwin Hot Sauce Company Calls PM Tony Abbott ‘Idiot’
Prime Minister Tony Abbott's unpopularity with Australian voters was recently proven by polls which forecast that he would not win in the 2016 election, while Opposition leader Bill Shorten has overtaken him as preferred PM.
When he was still the Opposition leader, he didn't escape the harsh tongue of his nemesis, then Prime Minister Julia Gillard who accused him during a Parliament session of being a misogynist.
With Ms Gillard retired from politics, newbie Senator Jacqui Lambie has replaced her as "tormentor." On Monday, Lambie accused Mr Abbott of lacking "balls."
The next day, News.com.au revealed that a hot sauce company in Darwin called the PM "idiot."
The brand is Darwin Hot Sauce which printed on its label since the Coalition came to power in September 2013 the following self-explanatory note: "Darwin Hot sauce (Srirache Style) Is what it is. We are sorry our Prime Minister, Tony Abbott, is an Idiot. Heat Level Cat 3."
The strongly worded label was posted on the Twitter and Facebook accounts of NT News. Since then, it has become viral, with traffic on the post increasing by almost 26,000 percent.
The company, Darwin Chilli Co, was forced to shutter their Facebook page because they run out of stock and are on holidays, said the co-owner of the sauce maker who asked not to be named by media.
But while the company used the insulting term on Mr Abbott, it turns out that they are not in favour of Shorten becoming the PM and claimed their Facebook page was attacked by the "Bill Shorten will NEVER be Prime Minister" Facebook page.
The company clarified that calling Mr Abbott an idiot was a joke, but the PM's fans were angry. One hit back and wrote on the FB page, "Nobody in Darwin can read anyway."
The co-owner insisted that he's neither pro-Labor nor pro-Liberal nor pro-Greens, but he hinted his real political colours when he stated: "They think that charging $100,000 for a university degree or charging families to take their kids to the doctor or cutting defence force pay decreases or pension are all good ideas."
It seems many Aussies share his opinion.
